Week One Reading Reflection

After reading the Clark, Johnson, and Whitaker readings for Week One, Reflect on the following:

How will you express enthusiasm in the classroom and in the school?
Why is enthusiasm important?

Evaluate yourself: Will you be a super teacher, an excellent teacher, or a good teacher? Explain.

Why is it important for teachers to recognize that they must constantly seek to improve their practice?

  1. I will express enthusiasm by not having activities in my classroom to keep my students active. Although I might not dress up like famous figures everyday, I certainly will get into the activity and what I am teaching. I also would defiantly take part in any type of outer classroom activities such as sport events and spirit days.

Enthusiasm is important because you can force a student to retain what they should be learning. They need to engage with it and be excited and interested about it or else it just won't stick. And them seeing the teacher be enthusiastic will more than likely intrigue their interest.

I plan on being a excellent teacher when I finally enter the teaching world. The reason is that I already know what is like to give something your all and not have enough for the rest of the important things. You can still have that attitude but also there is a time where you need to be able to step away before you crash and burn. Knowing on who I surround myself with such as friends and family, they would understand that my job and what I really want to do comes first.

I think it is important for teacher to recognize that they must constantly seek to improve is because teaching is almost like an organism. It need to adapt and evolve to survive. Teaching is about finding ways to get the student to learn, and using the world the students are in to help that process. If teachers were using the same methods they were 20 years ago the education system would be in a really hard place. Technology changes and the flow of information is astounding. There hardly is a student with out a smartphone, mp3 player, or computer with internet access. While this may seem like a deterrent to teachers, this actually is a wonderful thing because now lessons can be more integrative and more interactive than ever before. The species of teacher can never be close to change or like natural selection, the weak link will simply die out.

  2. 1. I will try to be as happy-go-lucky as can be every day of the week. I also want to wear goofy ties or watches. It could be a great conversation starter in a classroom. Anyways, teaching is almost like a customer service job. You need to be nice to everyone and you want to be respectful and helpful to everyone that you talk to. If not, customers/students will suffer. You want to make sure that everyone is treated similarly as far as how we treat our students in the classroom.
Enthusiasm is important to keep the classroom flowing and to keep the discussions lively. We can all be the Ben Stein teacher from "Ferris Bueller's Day Off". That takes no effort. The real effort is trying to keep a smiling face even on some of your worst days. The students will benefit most from a great personality and be more comfortable in your classroom.
    2. I think at first, I would like to be a super teacher, just to see what it feels like. After a year or months of doing this, I would switch to being an excellent teacher. This way I could still have some kind of a home life as well as giving most of my attention to the students. They really are the ones that deserve it the most anyways. I want to make sure that each of my students get a free and appropriate education.
    3. Teachers need to constantly perfect their craft just like any other profession. We want to make sure that we are up-to-date on all the latest technology that is available for us as teachers to better suit the needs of our students. If we don't practice our profession, our students are going to be the ones who suffer in the long run.
